We believe in longform narrative, rich storytelling & a connection to place.

Cicada Media is a work-in-progress, an organization focused on the potential of documentaries to help us make sense of the world around us. As makers based in the South, we grapple with the history and future of this place and are inspired by the region’s rich history of aural storytelling.

Founded by Wilson Sayre and Chris Barr, media and non-profit professionals with robust editing, production, writing, and project management experience. We work with reporters, producers and the public to create podcasts that share a nuanced understanding of people and places.

Why Cicada?

The sound of the cicada is so pervasive in the south in the summer, it’s hard to avoid it. And yet, we have never heard the sound on a podcast. We hope to change that.
